The Utah Industrial Commission is now authorized to award add-on fees of up to $35,000 if an injured worker hires an attorney and successfully challenges a carrier’s unconditional denial of a medical claim.
Senate Bill 76 authorizing the fee took effect on Monday when Gov. Gary Herbert signed it into law.
The measure, by Sen. Karen Mayne, D-West Valley City, allows the Industrial Commission to award additional payments to injured workers who hire an attorney after a medical claim is denied.
